Dirty hands and a clean soul

So I was talking with someone and they said something that got me thinking.  This idea got into my head and it has quickly burrowed its way into a permanent home.  So some of you may know that I am planning on owning a cattle ranch some time in the future and raising beef cattle for a living.  For those that don't know, well, now you do.  So there.
Anyway, this person had mentioned to me that they were interested in sports ministry and that they were, in fact, saved through the sport they play.  That got me thinking.  There must be a way that I can use my future ranch as a form of ministry.  I think something aimed specifically at city kids who don't get to get out into the country and get their hands dirty with honest labor.  There is something very cleansing about that and I think it would be a good thing to use to reach out to those who live lives so full of the noise and hustle of the city and show them how wonderful getting a little peace and space can be.
This will take a lot of work and a lot more prayer, but something about this feels right to me.  So I just thought I would share that.  I would love to hear what you all think and any ideas you may have would be welcome.
God bless everyone!

  2. Why can't city people do honest labor in the city? Is being a surgeon in the middle of downtown NY not as good as herding cattle in Wyoming?

    1. I never said that, nor did I imply it. However, asking kids with no training or experience to be a surgeon doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

  3. You specifically said "city kids who don't get to get out into the country and get their hands dirty with honest labor." That implies that city kids can't/don't do honest labor in the city. I never said or implied that I would ask a kid to be a surgeon without training or experience. That would be disaterous (as would allowing kids to be around 1000lb animals without training), I was merely comparing the job of a surgeon to the job of a cattle rancher and asking why a city surgeon's work would not be up to par with the country rancher's.
    Your defensiveness intrigues me.

  4. I personally think that it would be a great idea to own a cattle ranch where you can have city kids come do work. I don't think city kids have their heads screwed on straight. I own a cattle ranch, I'd be willing to participate. We actually gut and cut up a cow every couple of months, I think that should be something everyone should experience. I have my 8 year old inject the animals with antibiotics every couple of months, these animals are safe.

    1. Thank you very much. This is a ways off for right now as I don't have the means to start my ranch up yet, but I'm hoping and praying that I can get it going as soon as I can. Thank you for the encouragement.
